Tajikistan Senior Gushtingiri Championship; National Team Selection for International Competitions 2025 The Tajikistan Senior Gushtingiri Championship, serving as the national team selection for international competitions in 2025, was held on February 22-23 at the National University Hall in Dushanbe. A total of 410 athletes competed in this event across seven men’s weight categories and five women’s weight categories. The championship, broadcast live on Tajikistan Sports Network, featured top contenders and national champions. Additionally, 30 national and international referees officiated the matches. The most significant upcoming international event for the selected athletes will be the 2025 Asian Championship, which will mark its second edition.

History

From the history of “Gushingiri”

Among people of Tajik origin, belt fighting is known by different names. In addition to kushti, wrestling, wrestling, chukhain is also a popular sport with other names. In particular, it is associated with the interpretations of “Ilonhost” among the Ossetians, “zuronpatula” among the people of Western Kurdistan, “kurash” in Uzbekistan, “kures” in Kazakhstan and in Kyrgyzstan, and “kamari” among the peoples of Azerbaijan and the Caucasus, “kesting” or “kestingiri” among the Vakhon-Badakhshan peoples of Tajikistan, “kosti” or “kostin” is popular among the Bartang people of GBAO and other names of wrestling referring to different languages and peoples in different regions of the Asian continent.
